The Earth Mourns Your Passing

Today it's raining hard in DC
Pouring down a million buckets of grief
Mother, can you see me up there?
Crying the Potomac River of tears
How I wish you were near us again
I try to be a big kid, strong soldier girl
On water and land

Bite my upper lip, to not miss you so much
Sorry I didn't take more time,
Do memorable lunches
Caught up in my own life struggles and such
Please forgive my inconsistency, self-pity
Shameless grieving behavior from your offspring

Dad's taking care of Alexis, your feline cat
Never thought he'd admit, he likes that skittish nut
Some called you funny,
Nuttier at times than a fruitcake
Yet they loved you dearly,
Apparent at your funeral and wake

You taught me empathy, understanding, compassion
For people with mental conditions,
And those who have none

Bless you dear mother, rest in peace
The world became cleaner today
From the wind and the rain

The earth mourns your passing.
