I sold my spa tonight. Hope I'm not a big dope for letting them take the new cover, headrests, and spa maintenance kit in exchange for a personal check. They seemed like honest people. You never know. I went with my gut instinct this time. I've been lucky in previous Craigslist transactions to have all positive experiences. Such a quick convenience to get free advertising on the digital highway.

I'll miss sitting in the spa with steam rising up on cool, foggy nights. I'll miss the conversations of close friends sitting next to me. However, I'm getting my master bath remodeled with a new whirlpool tub equipped with inline heater. So I'll be soaking alone with five jets, cultured marble, talking to myself over a glass of wine.

I won't miss the humming of the spa motor from the second story bedroom. Won't miss the weekly maintenance and wondering if I'll be electrocuted in the rain. And if the chemicals are unhealthy after months of use. Not that I ever used the spa more than a dozen times in one year.

I'm selling off the toys because I'll be getting a new assignment in 2007. Naomi wants to stay at the townhouse and continue a recent career change in real estate. She'll pay rent and I'll have someone I can trust to watch over my belongings. Although we are just friends, I have enough faith in her to take care of my house and belongings. I plan on returning to California in four years when I retire from the military. I'm trying to learn how to trust people again. Tonight, marks the first baby step in trusting others. I've become a bit cynical and pessimistic in middle age.

Not sure I want to take the assignment available in Washington D.C. I would be closer to my birth family and high school friends. Don't think I could bare the cold winters and snow covered roads. Think I'll stay West of the Mississippi.
